13 of 93,756 A fascist movement is threatening our team in Brazil

Things are heating up all over S.A. primarily due to DumbAss Doofus and “TootyFrooty Rooty” coming down here and bring their “SHIT WITH THEM as they attempt to RULE THE WORLD!! Glen Greenwald, Editor of The Intercept was recently attacked publicly in Brasil as a right-wing Bolsinaro Puto attacked him and his husband in the public arena and the Courts. ALL THIS EVEN AS LULA IS RELEASED FROM PRISON!!

Last week, Glenn Greenwald was physically attacked during a live broadcast by a prominent supporter of far-right Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Meanwhile, the release of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from prison on Friday has brought renewed attention to The Intercept’s explosive reporting on how judicial corruption put Lula in prison and paved the way for Bolsonaro’s election.

Our team’s work has caused a political earthquake in Brazil. I couldn’t be prouder of their courageous reporting over these last few months, but we never planned for the sudden increase in security and other costs. Your donation today will make an incredible difference.

For the latest on what’s happening, please see Glenn’s note below.

— Betsy Reed, editor-in-chief

I was just physically attacked by a right-wing journalist during a live broadcast in São Paulo, Brazil. The incident has made headlines all over the world, but it wasn’t an isolated one.

Our whole team here in Brazil is under constant threat from a fascist political movement backing far-right President Jair Bolsonaro that wants to intimidate us into silence.

That threat is escalating severely as a result of recent events in Brazil, where a Supreme Court judge has just ordered former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Bolsonaro’s chief political rival, to be released from prison.

So I want to explain what happened, what’s at stake, and why we need Intercept readers’ help in this critical moment.

The journalist who attacked me is the former editor-in-chief of one of Brazil’s largest newspapers who has become a pro-Bolsonaro activist.

He has publicly called for a judge to investigate my family, suggesting that my children should be removed from my home and returned to the shelter from which my husband and I adopted them.

His homophobic rhetoric obviously exceeds the bounds of propriety, but I agreed to appear alongside him on a right-wing radio show because I believe that it’s crucial in any democracy, especially one as polarized as Brazil, to have political dialogue with your adversaries.

I wanted the opportunity to discuss with him why he would say something so inappropriate. Instead, he physically assaulted me — and Bolsonaro supporters, including the president’s own son, reacted with applause.

Our team at The Intercept Brasil has lived with the threat of violence ever since we published documents that revealed serious, systematic, and sustained improprieties by the Brazilian judicial officials who imprisoned Lula.

Bolsonaro himself has publicly threatened me with prison, and we’ve had to make expensive investments in our digital, physical, and legal safety so that our staff can continue doing this groundbreaking and impactful work.

Lula may be leaving prison, but our work is not complete. We have many more exposés to publish.

The Intercept is a nonprofit news organization, which means that you are our most important stakeholder. Your donation keeps our fierce independent reporting alive and helps us challenge far-right authoritarian leaders like Jair Bolsonaro. We’re counting on our readers to make sure we can continue this fearless coverage.

  1. These were the notes –
Not the first time a Foundation brought computer tech in to solve NOLA crime problem via a Foundation. It was from NYC: : “In Giuliani’s first term as mayor, the New York City Police Department at the instigation of Commissioner Bill Bratton adopted an aggressive enforcement/deterrent strategy based on James Q. Wilson’s “Broken Windows” approach.[68] …. Bratton, with Deputy Commissioner Jack Maple, also created and instituted CompStat, a computer-driven comparative statistical approach to mapping crime geographically and in terms of emerging criminal patterns, as well as charting officer performance by quantifying criminal apprehensions.[69] Critics of the system assert that it creates an environment in which police officials are encouraged to underreport or otherwise manipulate crime data. An extensive study found a high correlation between crime rates reported by the police through CompStat and rates of crime available from other sources, suggesting there had been no manipulation.[70] The CompStat initiative won the 1996 Innovations in Government Award from the Kennedy School of Government.[71]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Giuliani#1993

“60 Minutes aired a special on the new crime fighting technique, including Maple and Bratton.[1] Maple and Bratton became known as the Crime Fighting Kings.[1] Maple and one of Bratton’s aides, John Linder, founded a police consultant business and traveled around the country to help police departments with their crime problems.
The New Orleans Police Foundation, a group concerned about crime and police ineffectiveness in New Orleans, hired Maple and Linder for $1 million in consulting fees.[1] New Orleans’ per-capita murder rate was five times that of New York, with almost one person murdered each day. In 1994, Mike Wallace and 60 Minutes did a segment called “NOPD Blues” and branded New Orleans as “the number 1 city in the nation for police brutality and corruption”.[1]
Maple implemented COMPSTAT in New Orleans.[8] In 1996, crime statistics in New Orleans went down 22 percent in nine months and kept going down for four and half years. In late 1997, Ed Bradley returned to New Orleans for another 60 Minutes special. He did a glowing report, reporting that with COMPSTAT in New Orleans, it is becoming one of the safest cities in America.[1]”

The COMPSTAT was based on geography GIS whereas the new one is a much more dangerous personal interconnections… a sort of policing FACEBOOK.

    • Correct. I hear you.. but what you speak about is Domestic/USA. THIS is international ‘meddling’ in other countries politics and governments. See my post on the new Google Data Center they’re building in Montevideo, UY too.. and tying into the Telecom and Wifi networks there to control ANY AND ALL communications should they decide to.. although the ‘public line’ is it is simply a data center to help Google manage its global server network and servers – NOT FOR ANYTHING ELSE. BUT DON’T YOU BELIEVE IT!! Read my post on that it fully explains what I mean.. THIS is a horse of another color than the COMPSTAT network you mention – which by the way is totally outdated and useless for their purposes at this point in time!!!

        • The case you mention I believe was N.O. Police which would be local, county/parish or state – not Federal and it didn’t involve a huge infrastructure large enough to handle multiple countries IT infrastructure on a permanent basis.

          • I think we are looking at different angles. GIS was very new at the time 1990s and considered almost like magic. Yes, they did local, but I think also federal level in Russia. In many countries police are local and national. They brought them in for training in Florida. This was a sort of beginning. NYC was used as “proof” of Giuliani’s expertise and of the project. The projects in Russia were funded through justice department grants. All of this was in its infancy in the early 1990s. Now they can network social control by satellite as long as people have phones. Anyway, local was Giuliani’s talking point. For Giuliani I found this from 2018. People’s Parties tend to be fascist (Volkspartei). Huvane just quit. I may be wrong but I think Giuliani’s just ripping people off. “Giuliani’s team landed on 23rd Monday in Uruguay at the request of the leader of the People’s Party, Edgardo Novick. In October of this year, the former mayor of New York will arrive in Uruguay to present the safety recommendations of his company “Giuliani Security & Safety” as part of his expert opinion to Novick. Giuliani is known worldwide for dividing the crimes of New York into two halves in just four years
            Huvane, ex-detective in New York
John Huvane is managing director of the company “Giuliani Security & Safety”. With over 30 years of security and law enforcement experience, Huvane has participated in management operations, business development, security and threat assessments in the US and around the world. He was part of the team that founded the company “Giuliani Security & Safety” in 2002. He trained the Qatar secret service to prepare the security of the Asian Games, which were conducted in 2006. He Works as Security Director for Rudy Giuliani’s Presidential Campaign” from web site…

The American expert warned that the ideas he brings to Uruguay are not just in New York when Giuliani was mayor, but that they came from the company’s experience in Colombia. Argentina and Brazil.http://archive.li/vgf5i

  3. Remember that Giuliani is Italian and Bolsonaro is Italian and Trump has always had mafia connections – Italian and (Russian) Jewish. Bolsonaro and Trump both have some German in them. Any of them could be cousins. Sounds like an Italian thing to me. I strenuously object to be blamed for the misdeeds of late migrants. My father was alive when Trump’s mother migrated. I know my grandparents would have said she was NOT allowed if asked because my father never tired of telling how hungry he was as a kid. Our “story telling time” sort of sucked, as it involved hunger, rats in the house, tornados sucking people out of windows. It made me think our mice were high class. The only good story was the one about a little dog that said its prayers at night. I’m sure that all of my family was accounted for before Giuliani’s arrived though I don’t know the year for that – just that most Italians arrived well after the Civil War – often to deny black workers their rights (e.g. Mississippi Delta). I’m tired of immigrants coming to the USA and us getting blamed for their misdeeds. People were fed up with Italian and Jewish mafia is why they cut off migration from that area for a few decades. It wasn’t racism but crime. When you look at Bolsonaro let “person of color” and “hispanic” be drilled into your mind because a lot of the “hispanic” “persons of color” are Italian, as well as Spanish, Germans, etc. These families have tended to set up all through Latin American, the Caribbean and North America to “do business”.
